Why Norm & Nilsons?
The idea for this website started during my career at the ‘dutch Amazon’. Back in 2000 I started to work for e-commerce startup bol.com and I soon noticed that the things we sold the most, were the things most marketed. Of course that was no surprise. That’s how it works. The artist that got the most promotion, sold the most CDs. Spotify and Youtube changed that in music. The digitalization of music and algorithm the new platforms platforms use gave less known artists a chance to be discovered without a large marketing budget.
But how is that with physical products like you are selling? Big brands with large marketing budgets are dominating the retail space on large Ecommerce platforms. How do you as a smaller brand get on that homepage or in their newsletter? You can’t. Unless you have unlimited advertising funds. Big brands pay for visibility on those platforms. Visibility leads to more sales. More sales leads to a better ranking in search results. That will mean even more sales. And more budget to market. Do you see a pattern?
Get discovered
So how do you get discovered online? There are millions of products and brands. Of course there are niche Ecommerce platforms, Google, blogs that are willing to write about you and there is social media like Instagram and Pinterest. You will be able to attract your audience through those platforms (don’t stop), but wouldn’t it be nice to attract a specific audience on a platform with brands that also need to be discovered by more people? Your products are too beautiful not to be seen.
That’s why we start Norm & Nilsons. It’s platform for a specific audience, curates brands that share the same values and tells your unique brand story. It feels like a blog, but acts like a guide. It doesn’t sell products (you can do that on your own website), it’s not full of advertising and it inspires you and your customer.
It’s not about luxury brands
We focus on quality and not necessarily on luxury brands. Value for money counts. We are looking for brands that make products men want to pay for. They share craftsmanship, heritage or sustainability. Products that make a difference.
Who should join?
Norm & Nilsons is serving men aged 35 and up that are curious enough to discover new products. Products of brands that have the heritage in Europe. Brands that make quality products that last. Brands that take a different approach on a product. Brands that really care about their customer. Brands that make the world a little different.
How to join?
Joining is free for the first six months. We are just starting up so why pay for something that’s not a proven concept yet. You get your own page on Norm & Nilsons with your own photos and your own story that we will write. When you join we will set up a Skype call and do an interview to capture your unique story.
After six months you decide if you continue. If you still want be part of Norm & Nilsons you can join for a small fee of 25 euro a month (yearly contract). This will pay our bills and give us the opportunity to improve the platform without selling advertising space to large brands. Because it’s not about them but about you.
